Shaman

What are the shamans ?

Well, the shamans are some magic guys. They are indians, africans, celtics or germans and are affiliated to fables and legends. They can summon some surnatural creatures like salamanders. They can talk to undinns or sylves, that are spirits from nature. But they can also do some potions or medicines with only plants and herbs, they can heal loads of wounds.

Loads of shamans and witches meets themselves during the sabbat, a night of sorcery where magic kinds do an orgy or more. During those nights, we can see some monsters some times, like salamanders or fairies.

Be careful, maybe a werewolf or the boogeyman are watching you right now and report your acts to a shaman. Be careful and watch the sky if you see some fire or fairy !

Desert Flowers

During my holidays i watched a film called '' Fleur du désert ''. This film really touched me.

it's a story about a somali girl, she is a model and she left Somalia really young because she didn't want to get married there.
She worked many years in England for the Somali embassy as a maid, then she worked in a fast food, that's where a famous photographer saw her.
Few years after that she became famous, she told a journalist her all story , when she was 3 years old, she get circumcision, it means they removed all the female organ.
now she defends rights of women for the ONU, it is thanks to her that the world was made aware of the practice of female circumcision.

DANGEROUS MINDS

Who doesn't want to be like a gangster at school? Who doesn't want to be respected by eveybody???
In fact we all would like to be an important charachter, and why not famous!
It's exactly it with what we are confronted in this film : a classroom of tough, sullen teenagers, all ghetos style, involved in gang warfare and drug pushing...

            dangerous.jpg

Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer as LouAnne Johnson was realised in 1995, in USA.
Mrs Johnson was the teacher and had to confront with this type of students, she had the courage to help them by using her own methode which consists in changing them behavior.
She just liked to teach them some principales of the work, so she tries to motivate them frist of all by giving to them chocolate for all right answer, a good grad, or teaching them karate and when she introduced peotry she used lyrics of  Bob Dylon.
They all loved her, she was the only teacher that undersood them inside. She also attracted to their personnal problems...
At the end of year Mrs Johnson anounced to them that she will not continue to teach in this school. Students were sad and refused to let her leave.

Personally i have seen this movie four faith and every time i appreciated it more than the another one...It's really a story of a charicmatic teacher. It's a very good work, Mrs Pfeiffer's role is done so well because it's always difficult to be a good teacher in a bad class.
Finally, respect to Mrs Déglise who every time understands us for example when we don't have our material .

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

It's a film I saw, during the holidays, in the original version without knowing that was in English and not French -_-'.

So it's a very complicated story, because it speaks about economy and I think it's too hard to understand if you aren't an ecomic person (like me). The film in French it's difficult to understand so imagine when it is in English! Fortunately there were subtitles, but even that I didn't like the film, because it was too long and complicated...

So if you want to see it, take an ecomonics book and read that befor, and be sure that the movie isn't in original version, who knows maybe you will understand it better than me :).

Memento

Memento is a film of Christopher Nolan, the director of Inception. He's my favorite film-maker because all of his scenarios are strange and ambiguous. you think about it several days after seeing it.

Memento is for me the most original film of Nolan. The story is about an amnesic man, Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce), who seeks  the murderer of his wife. But because of his brain problem, he cannot store new memories. Basic script? Wait..

"REMEMBER"

The particularity of this film is that it is filmed in reverse chronological order. So we see the film as if we were Leonard Shelby. During the viewing of the movie, we really have the feeling of being someone with memory problems, because we cannot be distracted on second, otherwise you will lose the thread of the film.

Nolan is a crazy guy, with crazy ideas, but he's terribly fascinating! I think Christopher Nolan can be, will be, or better, already is, the new pillar of the modern cinema.

60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000s Madness

Last summer, "France 3" shown a suit of documentaries about the fifty last years : "60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000s Madness".

Each documentary relate ten years of History. It speaks about everything ; politic, fashion, historical events, series and music. I think that that's why these documentaries are really interessant. Usually, I don't like these kind of TV programme but these ones are fascinating ! To have the opportunity of seeing pictures and videos like these is really rewarding. I had never seen pictures of the events in May 68, Michel Berger's concert, I didn't know what happened to Michel Polnareff, how began the career of Led Zeppelin or of Coluche, I learnt new things about John Kennedy's murder... It's so diversified. I could go on a long time to list all important figures of thes fifty ! There were a lot of pictures I had never seen and I learnt a lot of new things, but I think it could me more interesting for people who have live through this period. It's always funny to see old picture of one's childhood.

For me, the most interesting subject was music. I really like 60's, 70's and 80's music. Every musicians of this period were fantastic ! If I have the opportunity, I would like to go to a concert of The Beatles, The Doors, The Rollin' Stones, Queen... It's not possible but I'm always happy to see videos. What did happend in music these years is just incredible ! Rock'n'roll was really a revolution. It inspired a lot of great musicians and made evolve music. During 60's - 70's, music influenced politic too. A lot of musicians fighted for peace, significantly in Viet-Nam. Woodstock festival took during these years and that was the biggest hippy movement ever. Around 50,000 people were expected. Finally more than 450,000 people were at these big concerts. A lot of artists were present : Jimi Hendrix, Santana, the Who, Joe Cocker...

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

I went to see this film in the cinema, it completely shocked me. I do not know if it is the cinematic effect, but in this film, I could feel and living the events as if it was me who was playing...

That is the story..

In the France of the eighteenth century, was born in 1738, Jean Baptiste Grenouille. Raised in an orphanage until the age of thirteen years, not sociable and uncouth, Grenouille has no other passion than that of smells, and every second of his life is guided by this overdeveloped sense.

Living miserably, he manages to get hired as an apprentice to Giuseppe Baldini, a master perfumer from the capital which benefits from its exceptional gift to create new fragrances.
It discovers the secrets and techniques of manufacturing perfumes. His gift allows him to compose some masterpieces olfactory but his sole obsession remained the natural odor of evanescent young women who cross his path. To this perfume bottle captivating and make his final masterpiece, he will commit the irreparable...

I advise you to see, it is a really good film.

Carly's boyfriend stops the dance and the group haven't longer has room to train. Carly decides to enter the Academy of Ballet with the agreement of a teacher to be able to rehearse with his band.

To win championships, Carly decides to mix his street dancers in classical ballet dancers of the academy and set up a choreography that combines the two genres of dance. This idea will give a explosive show.

What more than to see allucinant Batle between several clans? You love the dance? You like challenges? Do you like pushing your limits? This film is then made for you.

Blue Man show

I watched the Blue Man group in Astor place Theater in New York.
The Blue Man are a group who play music with paint and they bang with sticks on drums, on boxes, on pipes, on aerials and on plenty of other objects out ouf their context

When I arrived, I thought I was sitting in a good seat where I could see well the show without getting stained by paint because the firsts rank getting paint.
But precisely I was sitting just in front of the stage, in the first rank.

It was annoying because I had to wear a poncho not to be splashed by painting
On the other hand, I had a very good view

It was a show amazing. Their synchronization was very impressive and their music was good even if they use objects as instrument

So if they pass in the area I really advise you to go to see them, you spend one good moment

Dear John

I was flying to NYC and i was wondering what film i wanted to see and i choose ''Dear John '' .
Actually i didn't even look at the summery i just choose it because all the other film they have on the plane was sh**.
It's a story about a guy name John, who is in the army because he lost his mum and his dad is sick and he didn't want to stay at home anymore. But he comes back for summer break to see his dad.
This time he met a girl ( Savannah) ...They fall madly in love, their relationship is put on hold, because John has to complete his service and Savannah has to go to the University, but they decided to stay together, they pass the time by exchanging a continuous stream of love letters, until they can be reunited permanently a year later. But when war breaks out, their separation is extended indefinitely.
They continue exchanging letters but one day Savannah stops writing him.
John didn't understand why and wasn't concentrated on the army anymore, he got shot in one of his mission and has to go back home because his dad was dying.
When he came back he saw Savannah, she was married with someone else...
Her husband was sick and she didn't have enough money to pay the treatment. John's dad died.
John and his father collected during all their life old coins. One of these worth a lot of money.
John decided to help Savannah without telling her the money came from him ..
It's not the end of the film, but I wont tell you more..

It's really a nice film, a bit sad but still cool to watch when you have free time.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Cool picture, isn't ? Well, that's the cover of a 2008 movie that's called "The Dark Knight". It is a superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, the same man who had produced and directed "Inception".

To begin with, this is a sequel to another Batman movie, Batman Begins, which was released in 2005. In that film, we can clearly see the birth of the Batman; when Bruce Wayne was young, he fell in cavern and had been attacked by bats, this experience traumatised him because he was really afraid of them. On a night, Bruce was going home from the theater with his parents, and they encountered a beggar with a gun who asked them money. The beggar killed his father. The mother has known the same fate. After the murder, the young Bruce Wayne was filled by anger and thirst for vengeance. He was taken home and raised by the family butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

When he grew older, Bruce joined the League of Shadows, commanded by Ras' Al Ghul, and became a very strong warrior. With all his skills, he wanted to serve justice in Gotham City. With the help of Lucius Fox, a former board member of Wayne Enterprises, Bruce Wayne obtained all his weapons, and his Batman armored suit (he has chosen a bat-costume, because it inspires fear, like the fear he has felt some years ago in the cave).

At the end of the movie, the Lieutnant Jim Gordon, who is faithfull to Batman, mentions a strange criminal who leaves Joker playing cards at crime scenes. Batman promises to investigate and that's how "Batman Begins" ends and how "The Dark Knight" begins.

You guessed it, the Joker is the main vilain in this movie. I won't spoil you all the film, because it deserves to be watched, and I already wrote a lot of stuff so I'm feeling a little bit tired right now. Also, there will be another sequel to this movie (Batman 3), still with Christopher Nolan as director, and Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne !

To end this article, I want to pay tribute to Heath Ledger (also known as the Joker, in The Dark Knight) who died just before his movie came out, and who had received the price for the Best Performance by an Actor In a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.

The Mentalist

When I have free time, I am not like such these guys who read books or who go to walk with their dog ,  i prefer  to watch television , especially series. I can’t tell all the series what i watched because i don’t  want that my article fills 40 pages. I will just tell you that i appreciate the police procédural and  the comedy- drama format of series.

Well, here i want to talk about  an American televison series, The Mentalist. If i have  to describe this series : Extraordinary, awesome, meticulous. For the (uncultivated) people who  don’t know this series, i will  tell you some informations.

The main Character is Patrick Jane (played by Simon Baker) ,  a smart and clever guy , who can  understand the people’s feeling, their thought looking their behavior. He often manipulates or uses the technic of hypnose to try to find an answer.   He works with the CBI, as an independent consultant, he helps the police to resolve a murder, but his methods are unorthodox. The other characters are the beautiful agent Theresa lisbon ( robin tunney), Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman), Kimball Cho (Tim Kang) and Grace Van Pelt ( Amanda Righetti).

What i liked in Jane’s character is that he is always smiling, often childish despite his wife’s and child’s murder. In our days all the people look like serious or sad. In this f***** world, i want to become like him, i want  to know people’s  thrue personality or to find their hypocrisy.

I recommend this series for the people who waste time  watching gossip girl or desperate housewives, it’s a kind of Dr House’s (peculiar methods of dealing )and Monk’s (the profession and the paintful past) mixture.

For the attention of inconditional fans (like me) , i have a good news : the season will come out soon J.

If you have any bad comment, please send me it by email and not on the blog.

“Just a film an afternoon“

During the holidays, with a friend, we wanted to meet to spend time together because we can’t see us often like he isn’t in the same high school.

So, we were going to go to swimming pool, but the weather was not really good. We could not say “What a glorious day”, because it was raining cats and dogs! Therefore we decided to go to watch Inception to the cinema.

As this film is very long, we approached a little you know. But finally, we went down us on the film and adored it! Why? Cause the unknown.

Anyone know the concept, (normal, it’s unrealistic) and all the things who past are reflect. There aren’t accident scenes for example who aren’t in the chance, all is calculate. That’s why it was very interesting and wonderful to watch.

In the end, same if the end of the film is strange, because we don’t know if it’s the reality or not, - cause in the film, there is a passage between real life and the dream (where, in the story, they go search information in the brain of people) - that's cool to can imagine the end we would have.

So, I think it’s a very nice film and merit the big success it is having (was having).

Alan

ZuiQuan

Everyone knows about martial arts, like karate, kung-fu, judo etc. But there is a martial art that less people know about, it's the ZuiQuan [pronounced Juikuenn] or, in english, the Drunken Fist.

It's a high leveled kung fu, the chinese martial art, and considered as one of the most rare and difficult to do. It's because there is eight arts in one, each of them are inspired by one of the eight immortals, Ba Xian. In chinese legends, there are eight immortals, they are like that only if they drink alcohol, so they are drunken everytime. I won't write the whole story, it would too long but I'm going to tell you a summary.

The eight immortals are six men, one woman and one another that change by the story-teller, sometimes it's a man and sometimes it's a woman. The eight were human before, but become immortal by gaining wisdom and magic power. They all have one or two items to identify them, like gourds, staffs or musical instrument.

The art is inspired by those eight, with their own abilities and problems. Someone that doing the ZuiQuan faints a drunken man to disturb the opponent, for people it could be funny to watch because there is some strange moves and sounds.

Nowadays, we can't find any clubs without an extreme luck in Europe. There is some Shaolin Temple, in China, where you could learn it but you won't be able to learn it like that, you'll need to be in the temple, and so become a buddhist monk.

Well, you can find some videos on youtube or dailymotion. By watching some videos and read about ZuiQuan, I wanted to do it, so now I train at home or outside like the masters teach it.

"HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER"

I love series ! Like it's short you can just watch it to make a kind of break in your day.
So during the holidays my serial was "Grey's Anatomy", but when I arrived until season 4, there were just NO MORE LINK. So I had to find a new one :) and like this I started to watch "How I Met Your Mother". The story is about a father (Tedd) who talks to his children about the story: of how he met their mother. So during 5 seasons, he speaks about this long story and tells all details of it! The other caraters are his best friends: Lilli, Marshall and Barney (my favourite, i'll explain that later).
It's 100% humour! But it's the kind of humour you'll like or NOT! Personally, it's the first time (without counting H) that I laugh so much alone in front of my TV! Especially with  BARNEY! I want a friend like this! ha ha. He's THE GUY of the serial for me! It won't be that funny without him.
What I really loved too, is the fact that things you see in one episode will continues in the other, and the scenarist doesn't forget a thing!!!

Well, I just wanted to share this to you guys because I already told this to many friends of mine: " hey go watch How I met your mother it's great you will love it!" and NOPE they didn't :(... They told me: " Yeah, it's like Friends uh? well I don't like Friends" So please LOVE IT, like this I'm going to feel myself less alone maybe  :D !

This gonna be LEGEN... wait for it .. DARY ( you'll get it after you've watched it :) )

METROPOP FESTIVAL, Lausanne, 11-12-13 November

This is going to be THE music event of my automn: Robert Francis live in Lausanne! You must have heard his first two singles on the radio, "Junebug" and "Keep on Running", I'm sure. If you like them, don't miss the occasion and book your ticket right now.
A few biographical elements on Robert Francis: he was born in Los Angeles in 1987, from a Mexican mother and an American father, who owns the biggest collection of music sheets. As a child, he learnt to play the piano and the guitar, with the help of family friend Ry Cooder.

Robert says: "I got the idea in my head that I wanted to drop out of school and travel when I was 10 years old." When he was around 17, he met a girl: "It was a really tumultuous romantic relationship that lasted on and off for a few years," he says. "Then it just sort of fizzled out. I started writing songs the first time I figured out how to pinpoint that feeling of loss. I guess I was just waiting to make music until I had something to say. From then on, I realized I could write songs that really meant something to me."

In 2007, One By One, recorded at a friend's studio, was released and earned positive critics. Atlantic Records heard about him and a contract was signed.
Robert was then able to write and record Before Nightfall, released in 2009, which is a total hit all over the world: "When people listen to the album, I want them to feel happy," he says. "I feel uplifted when I hear these songs; they don't bring me down. I hope people will be able to relate to them and feel as though whatever is going on in their lives is going to be okay."

I can't wait to be there!!! His music touches me so much, and I can't realise he's so young (only 23!!!) and yet his voice is so rich and deep, his lyrics are so moving. Before Nightfall and Mescaline are my favourite tracks. As soon as the music starts, it feels like I'm in the south of America, somewhere between Texas and Louisiana, lost in the dampness of an episode of True Blood.

"REMEMBER ME"

Robert as Tyler and Emilie as Ally
When I was invited to see "Remember me", I couldn't help being a bit prejudiced. Twilight star Robert Pattinson and Lost blond actress Emilie de Ravin reunited? What a cheesy love story for early teenagers it must be! Well, I was completely mistaken. As it turned out, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.

I was surprised to see that there wasn't any seat left in the cinema: the room was packed! And the audience wasn't as young as I had expected. As soon as the film started, I couldn't focus on anything else than Tyler's (Pattinson) juvenile and rebellious looks.

The love story of Tyler and Ally (de Ravin) is such an unusual one and their couple is so authentic, you can't help liking them.  And Pierce "James Bond" Brosnan is brilliant as Tyler's heartless businessman father. I won't say anything about the plot here, because I don't want to ruin the suspense. However, I can tell you I loved the spaghetti fight scene! We have all at least once dreamt to do that... And I completely agree with Ally about desserts.

But the ending... It's so unpredictable! I swear, when the lights came back, I could see a tear shine at the corner of everyone's eyes, including myself.

My advice is: rent or download this movie and watch it with your partner, best friend or little sister, they'll love it. Make sure you don't forget tissues, you'll need them for certain.

SHANTARAM by Gregory David Roberts

As you probably know, I love reading! I was delighted when I was given "Shantaram" as a Christmas present. It's a thick book, with a nice cover and it looks really promising.

It's the real story of  Gregory David Roberts, an ordinary Australian man who ended up in a New Zealand prison in 1981, after getting in trouble in Australia. His addiction to heroin led him to commit armed robberies after his wife broke up with him and left with their baby daughter.
An intelligent and determined man, he escaped from prison several times and fled to India, where he arrived in 1982. The book starts at this point.

Set in the poor and dusty streets of Bombay, the story then takes us to other exotic locations, following the adventures of Gregory David Roberts. It is a spy novel, a detective story, a love story and a documentary at the same time. The author meets Prabaker, a young Indian man who will become his best friend and guide through Bombay, the beautiful yet mysterious Karla, the international crowd at Leopold's, powerful and dangerous men who will accept him as one of their own, Indian mafia dons, a bloodthirsty serial killer, an invisible Asian pimp and guerrilla soldiers in Afghanistan.

From hotels to slum, from Karla's bed to a heroin den,  from the snowy mountains to a nightmare jail, Roberts goes through so many incredible adventures he seems to be living 1000 lives simultaneously: drug addict, lover,  doctor,  killer, soldier, benefactor...

The movie is supposed to be out soon, I can't wait! I really hope I won't be disappointed, as it's often the case with adaptations of books to films. In the meantime, if you're looking for a tremendous read, run to your favourite bookshop to get Shantaram, you won't regret it!
